5 Tips To A Successful Wedding Day
1. Choosing the style of your wedding
Before you can decide on anything else, the first issue the bride and the groom have to decide on is what style of wedding they want to have. Having decided this issue, the rest of what the couple want to do should start to fall into place.
Now, hopefully, your wedding day is going to be one of the most memorable occasions of your life. As such, it is important that you have a wedding day that is reflect of your feelings, not those that you think your family and friends want!
Essentially then, you have a choice between:
Very formal – where you decide to hold the wedding in a place of worship and the bride wears a full-length wedding dress. The bride also has bride’s maids, usually three or more, wearing formal bride’s maids’ dresses. The groom, best man, groom’s father, groom’s brother(s) all wear top-hats, tails and gloves. Also, the house of worship is usually decorated with flowers.
Formal - again, the ceremony is usually held is a house of worship; however, the bride usually has less bride’s maids. Aside from the small issue of bride’s maids, all else about the ceremony remains the same.
Semi-formal - unlike a formal wedding, a semi-formal wedding can be held in the grounds of your favorite hotel, or even in your own back garden. The bride may decide to wear a formal wedding dress, or a morning suit. The groom, best man and father of the groom usually wear business suits. The gardens are normally decorated with flowers.
Informal - normally a civil ceremony, held either at the local civic building or in the grounds of a hotel or home. Unlike a formal wedding, in an informal wedding the bride rarely wears a formal wedding dress, choosing to wear a suit, or more relaxed dress, instead. The groom will normally wear a suit or some other more relaxed clothes. Unlike lavish formal weddings, informal weddings are usually only attended by family close family members of the bride and groom.
2. Choosing the right caterer
Apart from the wedding ceremony itself, choosing which caterer to hire for your wedding reception is probably going to be the most important decision you make. Things to consider include:
- do we want a buffet or service meal;
- what dishes are we going to have
- are the tables and linen included in the caterer’s price;
- will the caterer decorate the reception room;
- how many will the caterer cater for – what happens if more or less people attended;
- will the caterer provide drinks in the cost of catering the party – if not, do we need to arrange a bar.
3. Reception
Three things always make a reception successful – a good photographer, a good Master of Ceremonies and a good disc jockey. Therefore, when considering your wedding reception, make sure that you have all three of these high on your list.
4. Choosing the right day
Probably one of the most overlooked aspects of getting married is choosing what day to hold your wedding on. When considering this issue, keep in mind the following:
- the weather at that time of year;
- if there are any major sporting events on;
- any major holidays;
- popular time of year for other weddings;
- traditional time to take holidays (such as school summer vacation time)
All of these factors will have an influence on how many of your guests will be able to make your special wedding day event.
5. The wedding night
The final aspect to making sure you have a successful wedding is to make sure that you pick the right place to spend you wedding night. Here, it is much more sensible if you chose to spend your wedding night in a local hotel before going off on your honeymoon the next day. The reason for this is because most couples are usually so exhausted from the events of the main day itself they are too tired to consider honeymoon travel. Consequently, why not stay in a local hotel on the night of the wedding and then go on your honeymoon the following day.
Hopefully following the 5 tips above you’ll have a great wedding day.
